The Latino American Association of Monmouth County (LAA) was founded in 1987 by a local group of community members under the leadership of Mr. Dimas Montalvo, a community activist and local businessman. The LAA, a non-profit organization, focuses on mentoring and increasing the educational goals of the Latino youth. It supports the involvement of unemployed and underemployed people in educational training programs that result in enhanced employment opportunities and improve the quality of life.
Our organization feels that nothing is more important than providing a solid educational foundation for our youth. Thus we developed a scholarship fund to financially assist promising college bound students to prepare for the future. To accomplish this, we hold various events throughout the year to raise the funds for the scholarships. Our major event is the Annual Awards Banquet at which we honor select individuals that support and serve as mentors to the Latino community. These are individuals that demonstrate qualities that result in positive outcomes for the community at large.
We, the members of the Latino American Association of Monmouth County take pride in fostering educational programs and promoting awareness of the Latino community. We invite you to join our Association. An application can be found on this web site. The membership, in conjunction with many supporters; strive forth to accomplish our motto of “A collective effort Building towards the future”.
